Bremaria Morens is the scientific name for what is commonly called "Virgin's Glove". It is a small blooming bush that is related to the Nightshade plant. The pure white and delicate flower is beautiful, but it is extremely poisonous. The mechanism through which the poison works is not fully understood, but for a certain portion of the population, long term proximity to the flower can cause death. Much of the population appears to be entirely immune to it's effects, however.Bremaria Morens is very rare plant, but it can be found in Belarus and the Ukraine.
What makes this plant relevant to Spruce Street is that it appears to have been present there at some point. The journals of Rosalyn Spruce make mention of receiving a "snowy white, and exquisitely pure flower" from a friend, but make no mention of who she received it from, or why. Helena Sherwood was also said to have had a very beautiful, white flower in her possession, at the time of her myserious death. Indeed, it seemed to have been a very popular decorative plant during that time. This is very peculiar, because someone must have imported the plant from VERY far away, and cultivated it locally. The most likely culprit is Xavier Szelkac, due to his extensive garden and impressive horticultural skills. It seems likely that Bremaria Morens is responsible for at least SOME of the mysterious and unexplainable deaths during that time period.
