Matratut is one of the older and most powerful city-states in the region. It was founded on 27 Bolimber, Year of the Very Mystical Panda, by the prophet Xarxus and his followers. It quickly became a center of the Uumian religion. Over time, a strong tradition of academics and scholarly work grew, which resulted in the founding of the world-famous Matratut Royal Academy. Also, a strong commercial tradition built up, leading to the establishment of the sokol as official currency. The country was run by a variety of insane religious leaders over the years. Several of these leaders had the poor judgement to incite the great kindom of Undar, which never resulted well.
The prophecies of Xarxus were largely fulfilled by what is known as the Incarnation of Uum. After that pivotal event, Matratut experienced a Renaissance that lasted until the great war and the unsuing Rain of Screams. The events of that disaster are recounted elsewhere, but it suffices to state that Matratut had paid for its own arrogance with interest.
